Breathe Life Into A Dead Article
You have written a fantastic, informative article that should be of benefit to readers for years to come. But, after an initial rush of page views, your article has not received a single page view for weeks. What can you do about it?
A few days ago I wrote about some bum marketing secrets which gave you some fresh ideas on how to crank out an almost unlimited supply of new material. However, as good as your articles are, you may find that while some receive page views consistently, some, no matter how good they are, appear to “die” and fail to generate any interest after a period of time.
It would be a shame to waste the hard work you put into creating an original, informative article on a given subject and if you see that it is not getting the exposure it should, then you need to take steps to breathe some new life into it.
There are numerous ways you can bring your article back to the forefront of a reader’s attention and some of the methods are described here:
Promote it in a Forum
Visit Google and type in “your niche forum” into the search bar, where “your niche” is the subject matter you wrote the article you wish to revive. There should be numerous forums relevant to your subject and you should register with a few of the more popular ones.
I am not advocating spamming a forum with a link to your article, but if there is a thread which is relevant to your article, you could reply with something along the lines of:
“I have written an article on [your niche subject] and I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind taking a look at it and letting me know what you think?”
If the forum does not allow the linking of articles, websites etc. in a thread, it may be an option for you to add a non-obtrusive link to your article as a signature file. You can comment on relevant threads and people will see a link to your article in your signature and you should get some good traffic that way.
Answer a Question
A website which has exploded in popularity over the past 12 months is Yahoo Answers. Users are invited to start a thread and ask a question on any subject they want and encourage other users to reply with a solution.
Do a search on the website for something related to the article you wish to revive and if you find something suitable, write a short answer with a link to the article.
If nothing obvious appears from your search, get a friend to register and ask the questions which is specifically answered by your article, wait a day or so and answer it!
Publish on Other People’s Blogs & Websites
This suggestions takes a bit more effort but nobody said running an online business would be easy. Just do a search on Google, or the specifc Google blog search and hunt down website and blog owners in your specific niche.
Contact them and ask them if they wouldn’t mind taking a look at your article and if they think it is relevant to their readers, they can publish it free of charge, providing they link back to your website.
Submit to More Article Directories
You should not limit yourself to just posting an article to EzineArticles.com because you want the most exposure you possibly can for your article writing efforts.
Submit your articles to as many of the larger article directories as you can spare time for. Some other notable directories include GoArticles.com and ArticleDashboard.com but there are loads more.
By submitting your articles to other directories you are not only increasing the chances of your article being read, but you are also boosting the number of backlinks to your website in the process.
If anyone has other suggestions on how you can extend the shelf life of an article you have written, please feel free to add it as a comment below!

Wow, those are great tips. Also it might be worth looking at hte SEO of the article itself. Are you posting the article also on your blog? Once the original normal rush is gone you have to wonder if it would be good enough of an article that you can do the following
1. Optimize for Google - make sure that the article is keyword rich and that you are using some tags to make it better.
2. Submit to social networking - I use onlywire.com but you can also use social marker to make sure that it is seen as well by people
3. Twitter you article - If you have a lot of followers on Twitter then maybe you can get them to see the article by just posting the link as a tweet
Hi,
I would make sure the article is optimised before submitting it, but it can’t hurt to tweak it later on if you think it has lost some of it’s impact in the search engines.
I wouldn’t recommend publishing the same article you have on your blog as you do on the article directories. I have always felt the content you have on your own website should be 100% unique - you could always rewrite a version for submission elsewhere.
