Bum Marketing Secrets

I often discuss with my customers the importance of using article marketing to assist with their website promotion but here is a great little tactic to boost your article earnings and traffic even further!

Article marketing is also referred to as “bum marketing” by some because it is so easy to do. You can write an article, submit it to several of the large article directories and promote your website or product in the author resource box at the end. If you don’t have your own website or product then that isn’t a problem, just promote a product as an affiliate and take a commission from any sales made as a result of coming via your article.

However, if you are just starting out in this area, you may want a few pointers on what you should write about and what products you should promote. The answer to this is staring at you square in the face - do what other article marketers are doing!

The reason the authors are writing about the subjects they are and promoting the products they do is because it makes them money! Take a look at what the most prominent article authors at the largest article directories are writing about and promoting and do the same as them!

For example, take a look at the Expert Authors List at EzineArticles.com and just click through a few of the authors and see what they are writing about. Look at what keywords they are targeting in their articles and resource box and then check out how many competing web pages there are for these keywords in Google.

This technique is very powerful because a lot of the hard keyword research has been done for you and because the articles are published in a very public manner, the author cannot keep what could be a very lucrative keyword or niche a secret! You can also use this technique to see how the authors construct their resource boxes and compel their readers to click their links for further information on the products they are promoting.

When you find what you think is a profitable keyword and product to promote, get writing! It is important not to plagiarise work from other authors but there is nothing wrong in drawing inspiration from what they have written or even go about improving an article that has already been published. EzineArticles.com especially has so many dreadful, yet profitable keyword laden articles on there, they are just crying out to be rewritten to produce a fantastic article on the subject.

Bookmark Authors in Your Niche

If you have your own websites and products you want to promote, trawl through the relevant article categories and bookmark the most prominent authors in that niche. Check what they are writing about every few days and follow suit. Again, don’t plagiarise what they have written about but produce your own version and add your own unique spin on the subject.

Now you have a never ending supply of hot, relevant content you can write about in order to promote your own website or products and will not suffer the cursed writer’s block!

Increase Your Exposure With Multiple Author Accounts

If you find an article of yours is getting a lot of page views then you can milk it even more by setting up another author’s account and rewrite the article yourself again. Target the same or similar keywords as in the original article but rewrite it from a different angle or add a different opinion.

Now you can get double the exposure on the article directory itself and also in the search engines for the same subject matter with two different headlines.

Final Thoughts

The key to succeeding with article marketing is to produce great content that people actually want to read. There is no point in churning out garbage articles of a couple of hundred words each because nobody is going to click through to your websites, offers etc. if they didn’t take anything positive from the article you wrote.

Article marketing is also a numbers game to some extent. The more quality articles you write, the more views they will receive and in turn the more visits to your websites and products you will receive.

Remember, you should also just use the article directory websites for research and ispiration purposes only. You should never copy an authors work directly and pass it off as your own as that could lead to a lot of legal problems with copyright and plagiarism.
